Here at Village Green Dental Care, we know and understand the importance of good preventative care. This includes brushing and flossing your teeth properly, as well as regular visits for our dental hygiene team.
It is important to brush your teeth at least twice daily to help remove plaque and food particles that get stuck to your teeth. It is recommended that you brush your teeth for two minutes (or longer), though most people rush through this time. You need to make sure that you reach every side of each tooth, including the inside and outside. To help keep your breath fresh, you should also brush your tongue.
We also recommend that you floss your teeth at least once daily. Flossing is done to remove plaque that gets stuck in between your teeth. It also gets rid of any plaque that your toothbrush missed (or can’t get to)! If you don’t floss, you will have more problems with tartar, cavities, and even gum disease.
Dental hygiene visits:
Another part of preventive dentistry is your regular visits with our hygiene team. We provide gentle and thorough cleanings for your teeth to ensure everything stays healthy. For most patients, we recommend at least two visits a year, although we conduct a specific plan for you during your comprehensive exams.
Why is it important to have regular dental cleanings?
Most tartar and plaque hardens or “calcifies” over time, making it impossible to remove with your toothbrush. Although you cannot feel it, this plaque causes inflammation in your gums, leading to gum disease and cavities. Our expert hygiene team can gently remove this plaque on a periodic basis, to make sure you have healthy teeth, gums, and breath.
